The Citadel of Women

Banteay Srei is a 10th-century Hindu temple approximately 25 kilometres northeast of the main Angkor complex — about 40 minutes by road. The temple is small in scale but extraordinary in detail — the rose-pink sandstone is carved with a delicacy and intricacy that surpasses any other temple in the Angkor complex. The lintel carvings, the pediment narratives, and the devata (female guardian figures) are considered the finest stone carving in Southeast Asia.

Banteay Srei is typically visited on the second day of Angkor touring, often combined with Beng Mealea or the Roluos group.
